Sources claimed today that famed
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer actually "did it for the lulz." To most this phrase wouldn't make sense: but Stephenie Meyer admitted to being a troll, defined by Wikipedia as "someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response."
"It was all a hoax," Meyer apparently admitted today at her Arizona home. "I wanted to see how far it would take me."
And it took her far: just last week, the
Twilight series beat out J. K. Rowling's
Harry Potter at Nick's 2009 Kids Choice Awards.
"I was watching it with my kids," Meyer told, "and I couldn't stop giggling. I can't believe how much of a hold I have on today's youth. It's amazing. I love it."
Reports are still coming in from all around the world after Meyer's shocking revelation, where
Twilight and its sequels
New Moon,
Eclipse, and
Breaking Dawn have been translated into over 20 different languages. Reactions are mixed: critics are taking a sigh of relief, while outraged parents in Iowa have taken to burning down Hot Topics near the area. Teenagers, however, are taking this the worst: a recent cult that called themselves the "Cullenists" performed suicide when they realized that thbt'd.
J. K. Rowling, when told all this, was reported to say: "What the hell."
